Backyard Fences

Fences are built out of three common materials, wood, vinyl and iron. Pressure treated wood fences are typically the most economical solution, however can be upgraded with larger posts(shown above) or built in cedar. Vinyl fences have a higher initial cost however require less maintenance in the long run. Iron fences significantly vary in price based on the amount of detail in their design. Wood Fences
Wood fences come in two common materials pressure treated (green colour) and cedar (reddish brown colour). Pressure treated lumber is chemically impregnated with preservatives to prevent decay and insect attack. The green colour of pressure treated wood is due to the copper content of the chemical preservatives used. Cedar is a naturally durable wood species due high levels of extractives in the wood. To maintain the vibrant colour of cedar yearly coating of a semitransparent stain is recommended. If left uncoated UV degradation will grey cedar, this effect also occurs in pressure treated wood however at a slower rate.
Wood fences can be built using 4inch by 4inch posts(shown above) or larger 6inch by 6inch posts. The larger posts provide additional support, as well add additional life to the fence. If you choose to build with 4x4 posts we recommend upgrading gate posts to 6x6's to provide trouble free use for the life of the fence.
Fence panels can be constructed in a variety of ways to provide semi privacy or full privacy. Additionally the fence can be built to have one 'nice' side or two 'nice' sides depending on the application. Top details of a fence may include lattice, curves or a flat 2x4 cap. Wood fence can also be built to any height however most municipalities have restrictions, in Oakville the maximum height is 6'6".
Vinyl Fences
Vinyl fences (also known as PVC fences) provide a low maintenance solution with a modern clean look. They are an excellent choice for new homes and subdivisions. A vinyl fence requires no yearly painting or staining, an occasional cleaning with a garden hose is all that is needed. Vinyl fences will retain their new look over years of service.
Most vinyl fences come with a manufacture's 25 year or lifetime warranty. We install vinyl fence from a few local manufactures and would be happy to discuss the details of each product with you. Vinyl fences can be customized to suit your needs. Common styles include full privacy(shown above) or full privacy with a lattice top. Vinyl fences come in two colours white or tan, others may be available upon special request.

Iron Fences
If your looking for a fence but still want to keep your property open an Iron fence is an ideal solution. Iron fences come in many styles and height depending on their application. Typical residential fences can vary in height from four to six feet. Additionally designs and rails can be modified to suit your tastes and budget. Iron fences are finished with a durable black powder coat, additional colours are available upon request.
Gates
With all of our fence styles we have a gate design to match. Gates are high traffic area and are often an emphasis of added details. In wood gates we can install an iron insert or overhead trellis. For added strength in wood fences we recommend using 6x6 gate posts, if you wish to use 4x4 posts on gates we recommend a top brace across the posts for support.
